History

Mr. Ole Skaarup established Skaarup Shipping Corporation in 1951. In the late 50's he designed the gravity-type self-unloading bulk carrier, an important innovation in ocean shipping and core strength of Skaarup's business. The original company has continued to expand and is now engaged in practically every facet of the shipping industry.

In 1964 Skaarup Chartering was formed to separate the Chartering from the other activities of Skaarup Shipping. The company became a full service cargo and ship broker to world wide clients with a special emphasis on the U.S. iron ore, steel and coal industries.

Bulk Ocean Chartering was formed in 2002 to service the transportation needs of Aimcor, which was later bought by Oxbow Carbon & Minerals LLC.

Skaarup Shipbrokers was formed in August 2003 with the merger of Bulk Ocean Chartering and Skaarup Chartering, in order to expand the ship brokering services both companies were performing. Today our company provides services to cater to the full range of our principals worldwide. Over the years the Skaarup group has attained international recognition as one of the leaders in the shipping industry.
